As part of the AiRPaDD communication and dissemination activities, all AiRPaDD Doctoral Candidates recently participated to Zientzia Astea (Science Week, called by its name in Basque language) in Donostia-San Sebastián (Spain).
The Science, Technology and Innovation Week is an annual event organized by the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, and it aims to promote scientific culture among citizens and raise awareness about scientific research and technological innovation. Zientzia Astea 2024 edition was held on November 5-9, being “Water” the main focus of the edition and “Every drop counts: science at the service of water and life” the slogan.
Our DCs volunteered in the outreach activity titled “We are Chemistry” that was organised by the Chemistry Faculty of the University of the Basque Country, the centre Prof. Gomez-Bengoa’s research group belongs to. Throughout the activity, the demonstrators conducted over several rotating chemistry experiments, including exo- and endothermic dissolutions, effects of ultra-low temperatures using liquid nitrogen, buoyancy based on density, in situ generation and foaming of polyurethane foams, luminescence of various substances under ultraviolet and visible light, etc.
Their goal was to illustrate how chemistry enables increasingly efficient production processes that maximize the use of natural resources and meet essential human needs such as health, food, and access to clean water.
